If there’s one thing we do best at The Thinking Cup, it’s coffee. And stories.
In our time serving up the best of both, we’ve had the fortune to meet a couple of excellent… Thinkers. The ones who love their ‘usual’ order. The ones whose book The ones who have their favourite tables that they occupy every time they’re in. Which is a lot. And we love that!
To celebrate these ‘lit’ mainstays, here are some more of their favourites.
Before The Coffee Gets Cold with an Americano
“For me, the perfect day spent is with an Americano from The Thinking Cup with a side of my favourite book – Before The Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi. I often envision myself as the ever-present spectre at ‘the chair’, coffee eternally steaming, and book always open.
I remember when I found myself at The Thinking Cup the very first time. It was a cold winter day, I’d just finished Christmas shopping and wanted to just warm up with a cup of coffee. The Thinking Cup just happened to pop up in front of me, much like the magical coffee cafe, Funiculi Funicula. I walked in, saw the books, and it all made sense.
I’ve made it a point to drop in at least once a week now, sometimes with my best friend, sometimes by myself. The Americanos are always hot and the books always warm my soul.”

Norwegian Wood with a Green Tea
“Personally, I believe that one of Haruki Murakami’s most iconic pieces of work is best enjoyed with a Green Tea. The nostalgia, emotional turmoil, beauty of loss and sheer exhaustion that follows the turning of the last page can only be enlivened by a strong cup of green.
When I first found The Thinking Cup, I was looking for a new read and wandered in, hoping to pick something up. Another piece by Murakami caught my eye and I was hooked. I remember the haste to just flip the very first page took over and I ran to the nearest seat. Only an hour later did I realise how parched I was, and how a Green Tea would perfectly complement such eloquent words!
I come in with my husband every couple of days when we’re in the neighbourhood, and we’re here a lot. Especially with The Thinking Cup as an excuse!”

The Song of Achilles with a Vanilla Milkshake
“A cloyingly sweet Vanilla Milkshake isn’t what you probably think of when you think of The Song of Achilles, but after the emotionally draining final chapter, it’s the only thing that’ll keep your energy up! Especially the milkshake from The Thinking Cup!
I discovered The Thinking Cup at my Book Club. We were meeting here one weekend because no one’s house was free. It was the best happenstance, in all honesty! We were reading My Year of Rest and Relaxation, and honestly, I come here for exactly that! An escape from every day, with books waiting.
I’ve been coming here almost every week for a while now, and I have no plans of pulling back. As long as the Vanilla Milkshakes are here, I’m going to keep coming back!”
