What I Eat in a Day - Cafe Owner Edition

It’s pretty easy to fall victim to the idea that someone who owns a cafe eats gourmet meals all day, every day. After all, they own a cafe, don’t they? And they’re a trained chef?

The true picture (mine, at least) will probably remind you of a racoon scavenging through an open fridge filled with scraps… delicious scraps, but scraps nonetheless.

On a particularly slow at-home kitchen day, you may be hard pressed to find a chef dragging their feet in there at all. On other days, their meals would probably look something like mine.

A simple medley of leftover veggies from the previous day’s Specials thrown together with some Romaine, hummus, and a whole lot of garlic on a bagel is my idea of heaven.

A good olive oil, sundried tomato pesto, and a simple lime vinaigrette tie it all together into a wholesome bite to start the day off. Especially when paired with some crackers and veggies?

Lunch - Pasta

Yes, an Aglio e Olio is a basic dish… but if you know how to make it sing, you’ve got an orchestra of flavours just waiting to overwhelm you.

A whole lot of garlic, crushed red pepper flakes, and a sprinkle of parsley can fill you up in no time when paired with everyone’s favourite carb. And you best believe pasta is my favourite carb. It, of course, only gets better with a hunk of garlic bread.

For those with a shellfish disposition, some shrimp thrown in here would be divine!

basic lunches can be fun too!

Dinner - Stir Fry

Remember those day-old veggie scraps? Here’s where those can get a whole new facelift.

I use some of my favourite chilli oil, a few glugs of soy sauce, oyster sauce, salt, pepper, and fresh, springy noodles can breathe new life into whichever scraps I’ve got lying around my vegetable crisper.

After-Dinner Snack

I’m a good girl, but I’m not that good. I’m not opposed to crouching by the refrigerator light, scarfing down the biggest pint of ice cream I have.

When I’m in the mood to be picky, a cheats matcha ice cream is my favourite treat to whip up. Yes, I’m obsessed. It’s pretty simple too. All you need is some condensed milk, double cream, and a few heaping scoops of matcha. Some elbow grease and freezing later, you’ll be scooping up your sage-green creation with vanilla wafers!

green is more than the colour of envy
